“Pan size” or portion size 250g to 450 g unpigmented rainbow trout were the original retail product of the trout culture industry. This lean, healthy, versatile, and delicious product has never gone out of fashion, and it continuous to be the most popular trout production in unit numbers as well as tonnes of production. Average size, production cycle and seasonal availability has however changed somewhat since the early days of the industry. The preferred market size for filleting, smoking and whole gutted fish alike, seem to be the larger sizes, closer to 450 g. And this size is reached in only 7 – 14 months from first feeding (pending the temperature profile of the farm), with a steady year-round supply of the market, thanks to careful production planning, infrastructure investments and extended availability of eggs. AquaSearch RBT accommodates these requirements and should be considered a cost efficient alternative to AquaSearch FRESH during certain times of the year, where AquaSearch FRESH is either not available in sufficient quantities or the special features of this product can be traded against a lesser unit price with limited consequences to the specific production.

Genetic background and breeding

AquaSearch RBT, is simply rainbow trout eggs from one of AquaSearch partner farms or an undefined and potentially less selected batch of AquaSearch eggs (never triploids or mixed sex material). Although traits and characteristics are less well defined, key features like growth potential and robustness is not far of the original.

AquaSearch partner farms are in close cooperation and regular contact with AquaSearch concerning breeding and quality issues. And these sub-suppliers have all proven their relevancy in the market.
